SOLO CHAMPIONSHIPS

Unlike any dance competition you have ever seen, the Australian Dance Challenge takes the concept of an “eisteddfod” to a whole new level. We offer the opportunity for young dancers to perform on a professional stage and compete in front of expert judges for the chance to be crowned the “Australian Dance Champion 2011”.

Gone are the days of sitting in old high school halls watching your child dance on a tiny stage in front of an unsupportive, disinterested audience with sub-standard CD player and no stage lighting.

Imagine… you arrive at a professional theatre, you are greeted at the door and directed to fully equipped dressing room facilities. The audience is dark and the stage is bright with professional lighting. The host announces you like a superstar and your music starts playing loud and clear on our professional sound system. You perform your routine in front of an audience full of people who support you and cheer for you and  judges with outstanding qualifications and expertise. You receive judge's reports with useful feedback that can help you improve and have the chance to win a large, impressive trophy – or even perhaps, one of our cash prizes!

Welcome to a revolution in dance competition! Open to ages 4 to 21, the Australian Dance Challenge is a unique event that bring together some of the best young dancers in this country and showcases their amazing talents in their specialised field.

Here's how it works... We accept 240 entries only, split into 12 sections of 20, based on age. Each dancer picks their best routine, of any style, and performs for our panel of two judges. The three highest scoring competitors from each section will be invited to perform the same routine in the finals held on 11th September at Hurstville Entertainment Centre in front of a massive audience and a panel of three different judges.

The age groups are determined by entries. The performers are sorted by birth date in chronological order and split into groups of 20. (If we don't recieve 240 entries, we will still split into sections of 20, but will have less than 12 sections.

(Last year there were many questions about how we split the ages. We sort the 240 entries into order based on their date of birth, then we split it every 20 dancers. Some sections will have an age spread of 2 years, whilst others only a few months. It depends entirely on the amount of people of each age that enter. For the FINALS, we simply put the finalists from the first 6 sections into the Junior Division and the finalist from the following 6 sections into the Senior Division.)

Performers will be judged on entertainment, expression, creativity, choreography, technique (in selected field), performance skills, costume, difficulty of routine etc. All dance styles are welcome including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary etc.

For the FINALS there will be 2 divisions: Junior and Senior, with 18 in each (plus a possible two "wild card" entries as chosen by the judges). All finalists will receive an exclusive ADC moveable trophy. The 3 judges each give a score, which are combined to create a total out of 300. The top 3 dancers from each final will win huge cash prizes!

JUNIOR:           1st place - $200     2nd place - $100    3rd place - $50

SENIOR:          1st place - $400     2nd place - $200    3rd place - $100

We also have some other special prizes in store for some special awards... tickets, amazing performance opportunities, workshops, chocolates and more.
